Writing for an Audience

Writer's Workshop

One of the skills we are working on in our writer's workshop is - writing for an audience. We were tasked with writing and publishing a book dedicated to a child in the Early Years. The purpose of this task is to allow us to think about what our readers might like.

We came up with a set of questions to ask the Early Years child. They would help us decide on the theme, characters and settings for our stories.

1. What is your name?

2. How old are you?

3. What kind of books do you like? Why?

4. What characters do you like? Why?

5. What do you like to do?

We went to the Early Years during their outside play time. The teachers gathered them and we were paired with a child to interview.

We asked them the questions we prepared and wrote down their answers carefully.

We hope to make each child a very special book they would cherish and invite them to our class for a special book launch.
