Writing Workshop - Conferencing

We are progressing well with our writer's workshop. We spend at least twice a week working on our writing. Some of the children are already writing their third book.

The conferencing stage of the writing process is the most important one. This is where the teacher works with the individual child on the mechanics of writing. I take this opportunity to teach vocabulary and grammar. This is also a good time for me to note their gaps and plan the learning they need for the next lesson. For example, I noticed that some children are starting to use dialogues in their writing. That is a cue for me to teach them about speech marks.
