Exploring Motion

We defined motion as the act of movement. We used a bubble diagram to map out what we know about motion.

Motion

- can be an action of push or pull

- can be fast or slow

- can be caused by gravity

- happens when a force is applied

The task for the day was to explore various moving toys and use Scientific words to explain the motion. Three stations were set up.

1. Wooden Sumo Game

2. Swinging Pendulums

3. Spinning Tops

We came up with lots of motion words to describe the types of movements we saw.

Spin - Twirl - Swing - Push - Bang - Topple - Fall - Vibrate

One important learning that we obtained from these tasks is that force / energy can be transferred. We saw that clearly with the swinging pendulums.
