Arima Toys and Automata Museum

We went on a field trip to the Arima Toys and Automata Museum. The purpose of the trip was to prepare the children for our Summative Assessment. They will be required to make a moving toy that uses the concept of two simple machines.

The children were very excited about the trip. We watched some videos of automata toys. The children understood that toys in the old days did not operate on batteries or electricity. They were made using simple machines and requires some winding or moving by hand.

While exploring and trying out some of the toys, some of the children could easily identify the machines they saw and the forces that were at work.

"Ms.Shingam, this one is an inclined plane and uses gravity to move the ball".

"Wheels and axle and also magnets... help to move the toy train".

It is evident that the children have achieved the learning objectives for this unit!
