Summative Assessment
The children were given a design brief. They designed their toys. We did a lesson on using simple tools for woodworking. They then proceeded to make their moving toy.
Summative Assessment Design Brief :
Make a moving toy that is made up of at least two simple machines.
1. Draw and design and label the parts
2. Make a list of materials
3. Make your toy
4. Test it out
5. Modify if necessary
6. Present your toy (peer assessment)
7. Write a report (include Scientific concepts and drawings)
They tested their designs to ensure that it worked well.

They were given evaluation sheets and had to evaluate their friend's presentation and design.

Everyone did their best during their presentation. The evaluators gave feedback and encouraging comments.
The children showed good understanding of the Scientific principles of Force and Motion pertaining to simple machines. They were able to explain their understanding through the reports and presentations. This has been such a successful unit!
