Visit to Maishima Incineration Plant

We launched our new unit - Sharing the Planet, with a visit to the Maishima Incineration Plant. We will be looking at the 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

We were lucky to have Ahn (Yuma's mom) with us as we needed a Japanese speaker to help translate. She was fantastic in explaining what was going on in the plant!

We were introduced to the art of Mr.Hundertwasser, who designed the building.

We watched a video explaining how the incineration plant worked.

We saw the giant mechanical hand picking up the burnable rubbish to place into the incinerator.

We learned about how rubbish was collected in the past and saw the modern rubbish trucks delivering rubbish to the plant.

Our guide told us the story about a cat that was delivered to them in the bulky waste collection bin. We were relieved to know that it was rescued.

We learned that the burning helps to generate electricity and also produces fertilisers for the plants around the plant.

We had a great time and learned so much. The children were inspired by the art and also the green concept of the plant.
