Visit to Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art

A Day Appreciating Art

We had a great day out visiting the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art. It was a half day trip so we managed to see two exhibits; Fantastic Art in Belgium and one of the permanent exhibits Foreign and Japanese Sculptures.

Fantastic Art in Belgium involved religious themes from mid century Europe, so the children were more intrigued by the fantasy creatures and imagery. They were very mature about being quiet in a public art space and were taking it all in.

We had the most fun when we were outside, interacting with the huge sculptures. There were ones that moved with the wind and others that needed us to go under or through it.

What struck the teachers the most was how responsible the older students were about taking care of the younger ones. They held their hands and comforted them when they saw some images that were slightly scary. We had to smile secretly and keep a straight face when we heard the conversations going on between them. Too sweet!! We should do this a lot more often!
